.....Who are the New Vision board members?

 

David Ssebabi, acting chairman
Appointed on May 22, 2008 following the resignation of Michael Opagi. He is director, Privatisation Unit in the Ministry of Finance. A seasoned financial analyst, he served on the board of National Water and Sewerage Corporation for over 10 years.

 

He is also on the board of Uganda Electricity Distribution Company, Uganda Electricity Transmission Company and National Insurance Corporation. He has a B.Com (Hons) degree from Makerere University and a Msc. Finance from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland UK.


Patrick Bitature, non-executive director
He is the chairman and CEO of Simba Group of companies. He holds board positions as; chairman Uganda Investment Authority, Commercial Microfinance and National Insurance Corporation and director UMEME.

 

He is a member of the Presidential Round Table and the chairman of the ICT working Group. He was ranked among the top five East African business leaders of the future by a PricewaterhouseCoopers World survey 2003. He is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), London 1986.


Grace Akello, non-executive director
Founder and executive director of Women Peace for Africa and president of Women Peace and Development, a consultancy in the Great Lakes and IGAD regions; MD of Joshua FM in Katakwi, eastern Uganda. Worked with UN Habitat and as state minister for northern Uganda. She was on the Constituency Assembly, an MP, Katakwi and Soroti districts.

 

Worked in the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, Viva Magazine, Kenya, East Africa publications, Tanzania. She has a degree in social work and social administration from Makerere University.


Orono Atweyo, non-executive director
He is a technical advisor to the privatisation and utility sector reform project under the finance ministry. Worked as head of privatisation and outsourcing in Bostwana; as chief accountant, Speke Hotel, and senior banking officer, Bank of Uganda.

 

He has a bachelor’s in accounting from Makerere University, a masters in accounting and finance from Birmingham University, UK, a post-graduate diploma in financial management and a certificate in investment banking. He is also a certified trainer in corporate governance.


Capt Gad Gasaatura, non-executive director
He is a former MP, a retired commercial pilot and aircraft engineer. He is a management consultant (specialising in organisation development).  He holds a masters in air transport management (from City University, London).

 

He is also member of the governing council Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda; chairman education and training committee, chairman Uganda Electricity Distribution Company, director Diamond Trust Bank (at the bank, he is also on the board’s audit committee).


Christine Guwatudde Kintu, non-executive director
She is a permanent secretary in the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development; formerly served as the permanent secretary in the ministry of ethics and integrity and the Health Service Commission; has also worked as a Commonwealth ambassador.

 

She is also; director board of governors for National Social Security Fund, founder member of the Council for Economic Empowerment of Women.  She has served on the committees of inquiry for KCC, junk helicopters and the Police.


Robert Kabushenga, MD/CEO, Vision Group
He rejoined <i>The New Vision </i>on January 1, 2007 as the Chief Executive Officer. Previous work experience includes executive director of the Uganda Media Centre, company secretary and legal officer <i>The New Vision</i>, and legal and administration officer, Monitor Publications.

 

He has a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a post-graduate diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala. He is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a member of the Uganda and East African law societies. He is also a fellow of the African Leadership Initiative, East Africa Foundation of the Asper Global Network.
