.....The New Vision's support to communities

T HE New Vision Printing and Publishing Company does not only strive to inform, entertain and educate. It is also concerned about its readers by supporting them through various activities.
As part of its corporate social responsibility the company has taken part in activities such as blood donation at all levels to support the Red Cross Society.
“We supported victims in eastern Uganda during floods and of late we have supported the victims of mud slides in Bududa,” says Peter Taremwa, The New Vision marketing manager.
Taremwa says about 60% of the company’s budget goes to supporting communities, schools, churches, mosques and cultural activities. company supports cultural activities like the coronation, anniversaries and birthdays of cultural leaders.
Recently, The New Vision and its sister paper Bukedde donated sh20m towards the Kasubi tombs and sh10m to Kibuli Mosque in preparation for Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s birthday celebrations.
At the international level, the company was able to support victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.
He adds that the company will soon identify areas that need more support.
Through such activities, The New Vision and its sister papers has brought readers, listeners and viewers closer to understand its programmes.
The company has community radios where people can air out their views.
The New Vision has promoted local artistes through supporting their concerts and giving them free coverage.
It has also promoted local farmers by highlighting their plight to bring them to the attention of the public and the Government.
The recent Embuutu Y’embuutikizi Mudigido is one of the thrilling events the company has given to the public. All local artistes were given a chance to perform and the public enjoyed at a minimum cost.

In the education sector, the paper has been part of the Makerere University female student’s education programme.
During the Mothers, Father’s days, space is provided for those interested in sending their parents messages.
We also annually promote Women achievers by rewarding them for excellence.
The newspaper has also promoted Young achievers by highlighting their plight and need for support.
For the lovers of sports, the company revived traditional sports activities such as Ekiggwo (wrestling), which has attracted a lot of public interest and the participats were rewarded with prizes. Recently, about sh300m was spent to support Rugby.
