  • In languages and media which meet the needs of people worldwide
  • In translations that are faithful to the Scripture texts in their original languages, and which     communicate the biblical message
  • At prices people can afford, and of helping people interact with the word of God.

We are members of the fellowship of the United Bible Societies (UBS). The UBS is a global fellowship that serves the churches in over 130 countries. Our Scriptures are in the following categories

  • Bibles
  • New Reader Portions
  • New Testaments
  • Selections
  • Portions
  • New Reader Selections
  • Portions, New Reader Portions, Selections and New Reader Selections are published to address and meet a specific need. The New reader Portions are specially produced for young readers; and Selections are produced for evengelisation.

    TRANSLATION

Bible Society of Uganda is involved in translating the holy scriptures into various local languages of Uganda. Currently the bible has been translated into 9 languages, and the new Testament into 14 languages. Soon the full bible will be available in the Ngakarimojong and Lusoga while in the new Testament Dhopadhola, Lumasaaba, Lusamia-Lugwe and Kumam are being worked on The translation projects are jointly done in consultation and cooperation with churches. For every translation project, there are translators, review committees and translation Consultants to ensure faithfulness to the original text and clarity in the receptor language. Translation and reviewing processes take a long time and cost a large sums of money.

    PRODUCTION

We endeavour to publish scriptures in appropriate print and electronic formats that are relevant to the needs of the people. Since the Bible is meant to be used over and over again, we strive to maintain high quality products.

    DISTRIBUTION

In an attempt to reach the widest audiences, we distribute the scriptures through the following channels:

  • Bible society Bookshops
  • Distribution Vans
  • Volunteers
  • Church Book Stalls and Procures
  • Bookshops and Stationary shops
In addition some mission agencies help us in the distribution programme. A commission and/or discount is given to distributors who are not full time employees of the Bible Society.

    FUNDING

We depend on gifts and donations from members and friends of the bible society who desire to further the cause to fund our activities. Some of the ways in which funds are raised include:- Donations: We receive and designated donations from people of all walks of life including school children, individuals and companies. These donations can be regular or one time donations.
UBS: Ever since Bible Society of Uganda started work, a very large fraction of the funds have been coming from the global fellowship. Due to the new doors opening in Europe plus other factors, this contribution is on a steep decline. Time has come for us to shoulder the burden of raising funds locally to meet the scripture and operation needs.
Church Contributions: Every year during the Bible Week, churches are requested to give free offerings to the work of the Bible Society. Collections on the Bible Sabbath/Sunday are supposed to be sent to Bible House for the Bible ministry.
