Background
Makerere University Business School (MUBS) is a merger of the former National College of Business Studies and the former Faculty of Commerce of Makerere University. Established in 1997 as the first Constituent College of Makerere University, the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act of 2001 turned the School into an Affiliated Institute. Timothy Makokha writes

UBS is the government central institution responsible for the development and standardisation of business and management education in the country. In 2000, the school was strengthened by the Makerere University Establishment of Constituent College (Amendment) Order, which gave it a Council and a separate budget from that of Makerere University.
The Statutory Order establishing the school mandated it to organise and develop business and commercial training in the country at the different levels.
