Civil Society Capacity Building Programme

BEST PRACTICE AWARD

Procedure for the Best Practice Award

Civil Society Capacity Building Programme (CSCBP) represents the first largescale civil society funding through government and, reflects government's attempt towards providing space for civil society in the national policy dialogue.

The specific purpose of the programme is to enable Civil Society Organisations engage effectively with government, the private sector and donor agencies in the development process.

CSCBP takes cognisance of the fact that there are many organisations doing commendable work in empowering communities and improving their livelihoods, though their efforts have never been recognised and honoured. In light of this, the CSCBP Programme Management Unit (PMU) decided to come up with The Best Practice Award that targets both the not-for-profit and the profit making organisations. According to CSCBP, Best Practice is an activity or procedure with unique or innovative features that produces outstanding results in improving the quality of life and has the potential for replication or adaptation.

Objectives of the Best Practice Award are:

  • To recognise and honour organisations with best practices.
  • To motivate organisations to become more innovative and creative.
  • To encourage and create synergies and cross learning between the not-for-profit and the profit making organisations for the development of the country.

Criteria for Selection of Winners:

The following criteria was followed in order to ensure high levels of objectivity in selecting the winners:

  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the quality of life of the poor or vulnerable people (value adding to the communities).
  • The degree of satisfaction of the beneficiaries with the organisation's performance.
  • Driving force behind the practice
  • The extent to which an organisation creates, acquires and transforms knowledge for behaviour modification.
  • Mechanisms for information sharing, monitoring and evaluation
  • Issues of human resources
  • Achievement of objectives and cost effectiveness
  • Ethical standards
  • Sustainability and replicability of the practice.

Selection Process:

The selection process was done in three phases.

  • First phase was pre-selection through evaluating the nomination forms at the cluster level.
  • The Second phase was through site visits
  • The third and final phase was validation of the proposed winners.

Eight organisations whose practices are outlined were selected out of 450 organisations that took part in the exercise.
