
The Burundi Public Servants and the other public employees until very recently, had many difficulties as far as their welfare was concerned.
They were living miserably everyday due to a treasury crisis that was second to none.
Then came the mutual benefit society (mutulle - MUTUELLE DE LA FONCTION PUBLIQUE ) to their rescue in the 1980 event of destiny.
The public service was created in 1980 and the Burundi public servants welfare. That structure had to overcome difficulties it was facing, had to break barriers on not being understood and to push to eradicate poverty.
How many Burundians would see the possibility of a better future because of the services offered by mutual benefit society ( mutual ) very few in any case. Scepticism had won everybody who had survived the 10 years of civil war, which had driven the country into poverty.
WELCOME MUTUELLE
The main objectives of the mutual benefit society to the Burundi public service.
- Taking in charge the public employees and other public servants.
- To facilitate them the task in face of environmental adversities.
- To make the civil servants happy.
During our celebrations of June 27, 2005, the mutual benefit society wanted to evaluate the journey undertaken between itself and its affiliates. It came out effectively that the work done during its 25 years of existence is largely positive.
To this day, the MUTUELLE DE LA FONCTION PUBLIQUE insures more than 170,000 affiliates that is more that 600,000 beneficiaries, or close to 10% of the Burundi population including many dependants smugglers and other crooks, who also benefit from the services everyday.
Echos de la MUTUELLE DE LA FONCTION PUBLIQUE listens to its members This is a contributory insurance company for public servants dealing mainly against sickness, operating throughout Burundi. It has expanded its tentacles in Bujumbura as well as in other parts of the country.
COMPUTERISED CARD
The company is soon introducing a magnetic card, which will be noted for requesting for any required service. The card is expected to go a long way in reducing wastage of customers time, let alone the convenience that goes with it.

The insurance company's clients are treated at hospitals, pharmacies or health centres which have business links with it. The company foots the patients bills inreturns.
In 25 years, MUTUELLE DE LA FONCTION PUBLIQUE has saved 39,901,532,359 FBU as membership contribution and spent 37,631,491,188 FBU of which 32,062,321,161 Fbu is welfare benefits to its affiliates.
That is more than 85% of the total. It means it is an intervention rate that has been practically constantly steady every year.
This particular expense is injected in the treasury of pharmacies, hospitals and healthy centers that provides welfare to the beneficiaries.
The cost of shares The relations between the cost of the shares and medicines is 1 to 3 which place Burundi in its contest of an nude developed country.
As such most of the medicine are imported.
The debit on the abundance of or the shortage of medicine and doctors as well as taking charge of medical care and of hospitalisation is the order of the day. This concerns the mutuelle as well as it partners, Ministry of Healthy, Hospitals, pharmaceuticals products markets, the mutuelle of the civil service has since 1989, initiated the sale of medicine in rue of trying to regulate the tariffs of medicines on the local market.
