You could choose the UK
By Stephen Ssenkaba
As more people aspire for University Education, many are opting to pursue their studies abroad. The United Kingdom is one of the most preferred study destinations away from Uganda because of its rich education system. Apart from the fact that UK qualifications are internationally recognised, the country welcomes postgraduate students from around the world.

Why study in the United Kingdom?

  • UK education has a unique reputation, which will give you a head start in your career
  • UK qualifications are recognised all over the world
l More intensive, shorter degree courses will save you time and money in gaining a high-quality education
  • There are strict quality checks on courses, ensuring high standards
  • There is a huge range of courses and places in which to study, enabling you to choose the type of institution and location you prefer
  • If you are not at the right level to enter a UK degree there is a wide range of access, foundation and bridging courses you can choose from
  • Attending a Scottish university (many of which have four year degree courses) could mean that you do not have to take a foundation course
  • The UK education style is personal, with a high level of student support, ensuring that you should not fall behind or feel isolated
  • You can take a pre-sessional English language course (before you start) or take one during your studies, so that your English meets the demand made on it, ability to listen and comprehend is as important as speaking and writing
  • The UK is at the forefront of scientific and creative innovation and you could learn alongside some of the world's top intellectuals, providing an excellent atmosphere for study
  • For undergraduate degrees, it is easy to apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) www.ucas.com, which lets you apply to six institutions on one form. Applications can also be made online through ‘International Apply’.
  • Most UK masters programmes can be completed in one calendar year, making a top postgraduate qualification more affordable.
  • Tight controls are kept on the quality of education and standard of degrees.
  • Many subjects are available at all postgraduate levels - diploma, masters and doctorate and you can choose the type of institution at which you would like to study.
  • If you complete a diploma or masters course, you will be in a good position to go on to do a doctorate.
  • Many university departments have strong links to business and industry, making research directly relevant to the world of work.
  • The opportunity to improve your fluency in English will improve your job prospects and help both you and your employer develop international links.

These are the universities with links to Uganda.
